Prairie Pendant
The Prairie Pendant is the perfect way to wear minimalist wearable art.
This streamlined pendant is created by hand on the potters wheel, then painted by hand to create an aesthetic reminiscent of the prairies. The clay utilized originates from an Alberta clay company., which makes this piece the perfect ode to Western Canada.
Creating this ceramic piece involves several steps. First the piece is made ("thrown") on the potters wheel. Next the piece is left to dry, followed by the a refining of the edges. The ring then goes into the kiln for its first firing. After being fired, the piece is glazed by hand, building up three layers of glaze. The piece then returns to the kiln for a second firing, where the glaze melts, creating a smooth glassy surface on the clay. From start to finish, the process occurs over a span of weeks.
A black leather lace adds the finishing touch to the ceramic Prairie Pendant.
